    Coffee Date: Focus

Hard to believe it was just a week ago we were heading to the airport for a spur of the moment trip to Miami. This week has seemed painfully long. I’m in desperate need of a coffee date, want to join me? If we were having coffee I would most certainly go for Iced Coffee. I’m totally loving my Keurig for their Brew Over Ice options. I normally love my Ice Coffee anyway, but I love it even more when its like 105 degrees outside. Seriously, so hot. I would tell you how excited I am to have a few weeks off in between terms of school. I wish I…

    Paleo Pancakes

Good morning dreamers! Since starting the 60 day fat loss challenge the hubs and I have been trying to eat mostly Paleo, with some dairy and beans thrown in on occasion. This is actually great for me because of my Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. Some doctors believe that there is a link between Hashimoto’s and Gluten sensitivity, since they are both auto immune diseases. After talking to my doctor about it she actually recommended the Paleo lifestyle to me. Way to go, doc! For those of you not familiar with Paleo, it is also known as a primal diet… eating only what our ancestors could hunt/gather. This means avoiding grains and dairy. It…

60 Day Challenge: Week 1 Check In

Has it really only been a week since the start of the 60 Day Challenge? It has been a loooong week! It started on Friday with our DXA Scan. Talk about a reality check. We knew basically what we had to do, so we just kinda jumped in head first. Saturday was my first CrossFit workout, and I really enjoyed it. We also went and got a membership to Sam’s Club and stocked up on some basic health food staples like lean meat, fresh fruit and veggies. We are following a sort of modified Paleo diet. We are still having some dairy and beans, but avoiding grains and such. This…

    Sobering Results

It is one thing to “know” that you’re overweight. It’s a totally different feeling when the results are printed out on paper and handed to you. As a part of our 60 Day Challenge we had to get our starting metrics from a BodPod or DXA Scan. We were told the DXA scan was more accurate and would give us more information. We drove about an hour away to SIUE to get our scans done. We had some “last meal” type treats in the few days leading up to the scan, and you know what? They weren’t even that good. My go to food used to be boneless buffalo wings from…

    60 Day Fat Loss Challenge

Lately I’ve been looking for motivation and inspiration to take my fitness journey to the next level. This week I got the answer I was looking for! Barton Publishing, the company the hubs and I work for, is starting a 60 day fat loss challenge! This is awesome on several levels… First, it has some awesome prizes that include prizes for every percent of fat lost on top of prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall. Secondly, it gets the hubs and I motivated to work towards the same goals at the same time! Third, it gives us a definite time goal and motivation for it. Tomorrow morning we are…

    Unexpected Lessons

It’s nearing 10pm on a Tuesday night and I’ve still got plenty on my to do list. I had huge plans for this weekend, so much I wanted to get done. Another case of good intentions.  Hands down best part of the weekend? Our visit to Fuzzy Taco! I ended up having a great time with the family, but didn’t get all my to do’s done. I feel like I’m still catching up from a few curveballs from last week. My phone took a swim in the toilet. I swore I’d never be that person who dropped their phone in a toilet. Never say never! Going even half a day…

    Good Intentions

Lately I’ve been filled with good intentions. I have meant to go to the gym, to go on runs, to eat right, avoiding chocolate, stretch, do my 30 day yoga challenge…. but reality is it hasn’t happened. Having good intentions doesn’t get you to the finish line. It seems as though every monday I promise myself this will be the week. This morning my alarm didn’t go off and I didn’t get to the gym. After a long day of work, getting dinner ready, and getting a toddler ready for bed I struggled with whether I should go for a run or finish some homework. I knew I would still…

    How does your garden grow?

Before I got married I never would have thought about having a garden. Greenery wasn’t overly abundant growing up, except at my grandparents house, their outdoor porch was covered with plants. When Mr Dreamer told me he wanted to grow tomatoes on the balcony of our one bedroom apartment I was amused. He cared for those plants so well, but for some reason they just didn’t grow. I was skeptical about gardens after that. When I started my journey to health my mind changed about that. I was so excited last year when I started my potted garden. I cared for each one of my plants like my children. When…

May Challenge: 30 Days of Yoga

Happy May Day! (apparently that is a thing… something about giving flowers randomly? I didn’t get any flowers today… just sayin) I’m trying to keep close track of my goals and instead of looking for affirmation and progress from the scale I’m looking for other ways to track my progress. That’s one of the reasons I love running so much, it is easy to see improvement! I am looking into starting some speed work so I can see more improvement on my times. I’m also seeing improvement in the amount of weight I’m able to lift on the New Rules of Lifting program. I have noticed that I am pretty…

New Rules of Lifting for Women – Stage 1

Happy Monday! After a 3 day weekend I wasn’t totally depressed when Monday came around! I even got up early and went to the gym to do my New Rules of Lifting for Women workout. I did work out 3B of Stage 1. I was able to increase my weights on most of the moves. I know I posted about my previous strength training program last month, but when we got back from Texas I decided to start NROLFW instead. It seemed to be a more current and effective program with better results. I was really apprehensive at first. I’m WAY more comfortable doing cardio than working with weights… at…
