Estrogen Dominance (aka – My Hormones Make Me Crazy)

If you have followed my health journey for any period of time you know that I have been working incredibly hard and yet still struggle with seeing the results I think I should. It’s not that I don’t put in the work, because I do. I press my limits at the box, I follow a clean eating plan from a nutrition coach with the exception of a few meals out with family per month. Still, despite all my work I was seeing little to no progress. I mean, yea, I was making better choices for my health but as hard as I have worked I should be further along… I…

How To Be Intentional With Your Health this Holiday Season

So we’re going on our third morning of staying home from CrossFit. Payton is feeling much better, but still not 100%. At this point its just a whole lot of congestion. She coughed so hard last night she threw up. I hate it when she’s sick! I also hate missing out on Mornings at the box, I highly prefer morning workouts. But she should be back to normal soon, I hope. I’ve been thinking a lot about my “word of the year” – I didn’t set a bunch of huge goals for the year but just wanted to focus on being intentional. I think I’ve been pretty good about this.…

    Do What Works for You!

Happy Halloween! We still have classes at CrossFit 70 today and, of course, Payt had to wear her costume. She is Sofia the First. Check her out getting her lift on, haha. //instagram.com/p/gIgkdODInc/embed/ Anyway, I’ve been thinking about food a lot lately. Mainly, my relationship with food. I feel like a lot of time people are so quick to label themselves something “Vegetarian/Paleo/Gluten Free” or whatever. Once you have that label, especially on social media or in blogging, you are scrutinized if you don’t meet other people’s expecations of what that label should look like. For awhile I was pretty strict Paleo. In the beginning of my CrossFit journey it…

    I’m A Real Person

When I started my fitness journey I tried to look for blogs to motivate and inspire me. I, like the rest of the internet, was obsessed with the before and afters. I spent countless hours scouring blogs looking for “the secret” to their success. It seemed like every blog I read was already a success story. They were living their after. And somehow in my mind I thought they were nothing like me. Sure, I read posts about people struggling with a plateau or gaining back a few pounds, but those didn’t stick out to me. It was like all I saw was the photoshopped, edited, perfect happy endings. I’m…

    Owning Your Journey

Sometimes I have things planned out to write about. Today was one of those days where I had something totally different scheduled but when I read this post called “of tiny pink dumbbells and fat chicks” I felt inspired to write something totally different. So here we go… when i first started trying to lose weight i thought i could just drop the weight and be done with it. i’d be a before and after. i’d have one of those wildly successful blogs where i shared all my secrets. i’d get to my “goal weight” and then be able to eat whatever i want and live happily ever after. ha.…

    I’m a Hypocrite

Why does it seem SO easy to give other people great advice and SO hard to take it myself? I’ve been on this journey to health for several years. I’ve had plenty of ups and downs, successes and failures. I’ve been able to share my story openly in hopes of inspiring others. With that (and opening a CrossFit) I’ve found myself giving out all kinds of advice and encouragement. One of the first things I tell my clients new to CrossFit is don’t focus on the scale. Obviously you are going to be building muscle and you don’t need to be discouraged by the number. I know I just talked about…

Weigh in Wednesday: The Nutrition Plan

So, remember my Under Armour What’s Beautiful Goal? It was to train for my first CrossFit Competition. I had my goal competition debut scheduled as the Gateway Garage Games in September, so I had plenty of time to work on my strength and skill… but then another local competition popped up so I’m going to be actually doing my first CrossFit competition on Saturday! Eeeek! A huge part of me continuing to make strength and skill gains is figuring out my nutrition. If you don’t eat well you can’t perform well. I’ve been so stinkin confused about my nutrition lately. I had hit a plateau and was really struggling mentally.…

    Confused Confessions

I don’t know it all. I’m not a doctor or a nutritionist. I’m just a girl on a journey to lose weight and live my dreams. When I first started blogging I did it to simply share my journey with others and inspire them to find their own journey. I was struggling to find my way on this weight loss journey and I know that if I was, others were too. Then somewhere along the way I started seeing progress, little by little. And for some people it may have seemed like I found the answers. The truth is, I haven’t. I still struggle. It almost seems like the more…

    Why I blog

When I started my blog in January of 2010 it was a way to write out my thoughts, because somehow they made more sense that way. There was a deep sense of self-revelation that came when my fingers started typing. I was majorly preggo and freaking out about having a kid. and trying to figure life out. and then she came. and life got busy. and this place became somewhere to share my memories and life. and then there was that one time I thought I was going to be a craft blogger. ha. that was funny. then began my “lose the baby weight/weight from before the baby” project. I…

Weigh In Wednesday: Whole30 Before Stats

So it’s the start of Day 3 of the Whole30 and I’m still alive. I’m still not sure if I’m going to post daily updates throughout the week or if I’ll just do a weekly update post. There are several other bloggers who are doing the Whole30 this month so I am going to host a weekly link up for us to check in with each other. Every Monday we will link up our recaps of the week. This way we can stay accountable to each other and get meal/planning ideas! So be sure to come back on Monday for our first link up! Now let’s talk “before” stats. Here…
