Level 1 Apparel Review & Giveaway

CrossFitters are know for a lot of things… knee socks, sweat angels, & epic shirts are just a few. When it comes to CrossFit shirts the most common ones are those with hilarious sayings that seem to be in a foreign language (and may be slightly offensive to those who are unfamiliar with the terminology). Now, I’m one of the most immature people around and will be the first to make a “that’s what she said” joke but I can also appreciate a really well done graphic design. Level 1 Apparel goes beyond the hilariously inappropriate/motivational quote and incorporates some amazing graphic design into their apparel. When I first saw…

    My 2014 CrossFit Open

Have the 5 weeks of the 2014 CrossFit Open passed already? For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Open is the start of the road to the CrossFit Games. Anyone can compete in the Open. Each week for 5 weeks CrossFit HQ releases a WOD on Thursday night and you have until Monday night to submit your score. It costs $20 to enter, which includes your own athlete profile page. Legit, right? Anyway… When it came time for the first open WOD to be announced I was excited and nervous. I want to prove that I am as fit as I feel, but ultimately it would come down…

    Don’t Get Comfortable

So, the thing about CrossFit… one of the many, anyway… Is that there is always something to improve on. While I have come such a long way, there are still certain things that I hate/suck at more than others. One thing that I have made no secret about is my hatred/fear of box jumps. I hate it that they scare me so much. Everyone says it is “just a box” but to me it is so much more. I was crossfitting for several months before I even attempted a box jump. I would walk up to it, try to jump and psych myself out and not even get off the…

Taking the Plunge: Skin Surgery Post-Weight Loss

Well, aren’t we just talking about one major life change after another around here! Be warned this may get a little lengthy… I’ve been on this healthy living journey for over 4 years now. It hasn’t always been easy and there have been many detours along the way. I’m getting to a place where I feel like I’m close to the body type I think will work best for me and my goals, this is totally personal opinion. Many people on their health journey are out to get to a goal weight. When I started on this journey I thought I wanted to weigh 135. Now my lean muscle mass…

    A little bit of everything…

Oh Hey there. Remember me? I almost forgot how to write. Seriously, Life has been crazy. Let’s try to do a quick update here… CrossFit 70 is growing! We have a tiny space, like 700 square feet. So as the classes grow the space seems smaller and smaller. Well, we are moving! Just down to the other end of the building but it is over double the size! We are going to be building a second bathroom and… A SHOWER! We will have so much more space, a lobby and front entrance (we were previously just in the back bay instead of having a storefront). This means we are going…

    Do What Works for You!

Happy Halloween! We still have classes at CrossFit 70 today and, of course, Payt had to wear her costume. She is Sofia the First. Check her out getting her lift on, haha. //instagram.com/p/gIgkdODInc/embed/ Anyway, I’ve been thinking about food a lot lately. Mainly, my relationship with food. I feel like a lot of time people are so quick to label themselves something “Vegetarian/Paleo/Gluten Free” or whatever. Once you have that label, especially on social media or in blogging, you are scrutinized if you don’t meet other people’s expecations of what that label should look like. For awhile I was pretty strict Paleo. In the beginning of my CrossFit journey it…

    I’m A Real Person

When I started my fitness journey I tried to look for blogs to motivate and inspire me. I, like the rest of the internet, was obsessed with the before and afters. I spent countless hours scouring blogs looking for “the secret” to their success. It seemed like every blog I read was already a success story. They were living their after. And somehow in my mind I thought they were nothing like me. Sure, I read posts about people struggling with a plateau or gaining back a few pounds, but those didn’t stick out to me. It was like all I saw was the photoshopped, edited, perfect happy endings. I’m…

Kill Cliff: Test Positive for Awesome

I’ve been doing CrossFit for awhile now and I still feel like I’m learning new things. As CrossFit becomes more popular more and more specialty products pop up for it. One that has always intrigued me was Kill Cliff. See I am of the belief that one of the hardest things to master in CrossFit is recovery. Anything that claims to help me recover faster so I can hit the box harder next time is worth a try in my book. I reached out to Kill Cliff and they actually sent me some samples to try it for myself. Kill Cliff is NOT an energy drink. It is a recovery…

Will CrossFit Help Me Lose Weight?

Why the Scale Isn’t the Best Measure of Progress Note from Courtney (2025): This post was written in 2013 during a season when I was deeply immersed in weight loss and CrossFit. While my perspective has evolved, I now approach wellness with much more softness, self-compassion, and curiosity. I choose to leave this post up because it’s part of my story. I don’t believe in erasing the versions of ourselves who were just trying their best with the tools they had. If you’re here seeking answers, just know: you’re allowed to change. You’re allowed to grow. And you’re still worthy no matter where you are on your journey. As a CrossFit…

    Barbells For Boobs

Hey Friends! I hope your week is going well. I’ve got a few things I’ve been working on posts for, but seeing as it is now October which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I wanted to share with you something awesome we are doing through our CrossFit, CrossFit 70. We are hosting a Barbells for Boobs fundraising event on October 19th. Our goal as a team is to raise a total of $800, enough to pay for 10 mammograms. On October 19th we will come together and perform the workout “Grace” which is 30 Clean & Jerks for time. Barbells for Boobs is a non-profit organization that provides funding to pay…
