    WDW Marathon Recap {lessons learned from a DNF}

    {you can read about the expo/pre-race activities here and read the race recap here} I did not finish. I DID NOT finish. I DID NOT FINISH. Man, that’s a tough pill to swallow. I was super emotional about it right after it happened, but tried to suck it up… After all we were at Disney! Then I would remember that moment I knew I wasn’t going to cross that finish line and my heart would sink. Looking back I can see there were several practical lessons to learn from my DNF. I want to share those with you in case you are thinking about doing a marathon, so you don’t…

    WDW Marathon Recap {race day}

    {Read about the expo and pre-race day activities here.} Sunday, January 8, 2012. It was here! I didn’t sleep well at all. My stomach was in knots from the nerves. I kept wondering if I drank enough water… why did I go to sleep so late… what if I missed all 3 of my alarms… I had crazy weird dreams about the race. I ended up having to get up to use the bathroom around 2:30 (guess I did drink enough water!) and decided to go ahead and start getting ready. Hot pink tshirt: check. Favorite compression capris: check. Hot pink compression socks: check. Pink sweatband: check. Bib: check. I…

    WDW Marathon Recap {The Expo/Pre-Race Day}

    So, it’s been 3 months… It seems like forever ago, but it seems like yesterday at the same time. I’ve went through the day in my head a million times. I have reflected on the lessons learned. And I I’m finally ready to put it into words. I’ll be doing this over a few days this week, so I don’t overwhelm you with too much in one post. Ready for part one? Today I’ll be talking about the Expo and Pre-Race day at Disney. Here we go… I had been playing with the idea of doing a marathon for a while. I like the idea of racing to keep me…

    It’s all mental. {and a Team Living Water Update}

    Goodness, is it Thursday already? I feel like my days kinda melt together during the week. Especially this week (although I could probably say that about every week). With the traveling home from Texas, a trip to the ER, adjusting back to life at home (laundry, cleaning, grocery shopping, meal planning) plus trying to get back on track with my training there just doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day. I went for a run on Tuesday. I made several mistakes in the preparation and execution of this run…. I’m going to share those with you in hopes that you don’t make the same mistakes. First of all I’m certain…

    Granbury Road Race 5k Recap

    Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Mine went by far too fast. I was so looking forward to this weekend not because it was St Patricks day, but because I was going to run a 5k! I have been training for the GO! STL Half Marathon since the end of January, so actually getting to run a race is a fun way to shake up the training. Plus, I love Texas and wanted to see what their running community was like. One of my not-so-favorite things about this race was that the pre-race packet pick-up was about an hour drive from the actual race location. They were doing the pre-race…

    Make it Work!

    The family and I have been spending some time in Texas, and I absolutely love it. There is just something about Texas that begs me to come live here. We got a rental home for the time we are here, which is a little over 2 weeks. It’s back in a hidden little neighborhood on a canal off of Lake Granbury. I knew that I would be breaking my 80/20 rule when it comes to eating, trying to eat 80% vegetarian/20% meat, it’s Texas after all… Texas IS meat! Anyway, I figured it would be even more important to stick to my workouts. I was planning on getting my runs…

    Team Living Water Tuesday: 4 Miles

    Daylight savings time has messed up my training schedule! I had just started getting up early so that I could get my run in before the day started. Which normally works, except we are staying in a rental house in Texas for a few weeks and I don’t really know the area and it is super dark out until like 7:30am now… crazy! Tuesdays are normally my group running days with Team Living Water, but since we are out of town I haven’t been able to make it. Today was supposed to be long run day, but since Chris had work to do and we don’t have Emily here I…

    Team Living Water Tuesday

    Have you ever been thirsty? You know that feeling of thirst that doesn’t go away? What if you couldn’t just go to the fridge or the faucet and get water? That is reality for more people that you would think. They have to walk for miles just to get a small amount of water and carry it back. It is usually not even enough for their whole family for the day. What if you could help? Team Living Water from Living Water International on Vimeo. You can. I am currently training to run the GO! STL Half-Marathon in April on behalf of Team Living Water. No, it doesn’t mean you…

    Reality is Setting In….

    I can hardly believe it’s really here. No, not 2012… but the week of my first marathon! I feel like I didn’t really expect it to actually happen when I signed up for it.  Last marathon update was when I ran 23 miles, and I killed it. At least for me. I wrote how I was supposed to run my last long run the week before Christmas. I was building up the anticipation for it and when the alarm went off at 4:15 that saturday morning I knew something was off… I felt horrible. Couldn’t breathe through my nose, head throbbing. I had a sinus cold, ick. I still went…

    Twenty Three.

    What?? The last time I updated was November 11? Where did November go?? I can hardly believe we’re already full swing in the Christmas season! December snuck up on me. I can’t believe Christmas is a few weeks away, Not to mention in just over ONE MONTH I will be running my first marathon. This nervous excitement is almost too much… Speaking of the marathon, I haven’t kept you up to date on my training, so here’s a recap… The week of thanksgiving was my second to last “long run” of my training… 23 miles! 23 has always been my favorite number (its my birthday! 3/23) So I figured when…
