BSN Syntha-6 & Amino X Review #energyigniter

If I told you how much protein powder we have in our house at any given time you wouldn’t believe me. It’s unreal. A whole shelf in our pantry that used to be dedicated to breads/processed snacks has turned into a supplement shelf… which then got overcrowded and spilled over onto my nut butter shelf. Yes, I have a whole shelf in the pantry dedicated to nut butter… or at least I did until the supplements started to spill over onto it… oh the tragedy!

A few weeks ago I was sent some items to review from BSN. To say I was excited is an understatement.  Can you guess why? No? Well I’m going to tell you. If you clicked over to their homepage you’d see this:

You’re welcome.

Oh. We were talking about protein, right. So obviously this stuff has to be good if the champ uses it, right? When we were at his box for our CrossFit Level 1 Cert there was so much BSN it was insane. He was also carrying around a shaker cup filled with this red liquid that he was constantly sipping on. Turns out it was Amino X. Lucky me, it was one of the things they sent me to try!

Amino Acids are used to help with protein synthesis, muscle sparing, recovery, & endurance. They can be taken before, during, or after a workout. I usually like to have them to sip on if I’m lifting, or right after if I am doing a metcon. The thing that is different about AminoX as opposed to other aminos I’ve tried is that these are effervescent – so if you don’t want to clean up aminos for the rest of your life don’t put it in a blender bottle and shake it… stir it up. I love the bubbles!

This watermelon flavor is amazeballs. and it’s pink, so that is extra awesome. I find when I consistently use it after workouts my level of soreness drops drastically. I haven’t been using it on whole30- but the hubs has. He actually finished off this tub and went out and bought another one! He was pretty loyal to his previous brand of Aminos, so he must have liked it a lot to switch over! Plus it is WAY less expensive than the one we had used before. WINNING. If you’re looking for a good Amino supplement I can honestly say this one is great!

They also sent me a tub of their Syntha-6 Protein in Chocolate Cake Batter. Yes, please.

So my fitness goals right now are really two-fold. I need to lose weight. I want to be strong. Finding the balance between getting stronger is hard for me. Since I’m not trying to just pack on a ton of muscle, I don’t use protein nearly as much as the hubs and his bff do. But I still need it – especially after heavy lifting sessions. I find that if I don’t have protein right after a workout I usually end up in the “EAT ALL THE THINGS!!” frenzy a few hours later. While it is possible to get all the protein you need from whole foods, the idea of downing a few hard boiled eggs after burpee box-overs is hard to swallow (pun intended). I want to make sure I’m feeding my muscles enough so they grow and continue to burn fat. Protein powder is a good way for me to do that (when I’m not on the Whole30). This protein powder packs a punch with 22 grams of protein per serving. It only has 2 grams of sugar and 200 calories. I usually mix it with almond milk or water.

and hello, it is chocolate cake batter flavored! It is like a dessert! I really like the way it tastes. We aren’t strangers to syntha-6… we actually have 2 other 5lb tubs of the chocolate flavor too. I told you, we have a lot of protein going on around here. But hey, there are worse things you could have overflowing from your pantry!

Overall I’m impressed with BSN and their line of supplements. The hubs likes to use their N.O.Xplode Pre-Workout as well, but I’ve not tried it so I can’t speak to it myself. But if he keeps going back to it, it has to be good!

Do you use supplements? What are some of your favorites?
