I’ve said multiple times how I wasn’t really sure about CrossFit before I tried it. I figured it was a fad, that you had to be in shape to do it, etc etc… But after my first CrossFit experience I knew I was hooked. This weekend made me all the more excited about being involved in the CrossFit Community, it was the 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games!
For those of you who aren’t familiar with CrossFit, each year they have the CrossFit Open (which is OPEN to anyone). The top men and women in each regional then advance to the CrossFit Regionals. Then, the top 3 men and women from each region get to compete in the CrossFit games. The winners of the games are then given the title of The Fittest Man and The Fittest Woman on Earth.
Annie Thorisdotter and Rich Froning 2011 Champs both repeat their victory at the 2012 Games!
For me, It is SO inspiring to look at these athletes and know they did the same work that I am doing to get them where they are. When you are talking sports and competition in areas like football, softball, or soccer there is like .001% chance that you can pick up that sport in your twenties and then go on to compete for the highest title in that sport. What I see with CrossFit is that with enough work and dedication, that is totally a possibility. Look at Julie Foucher.
She started CrossFit in 2009, 9 months later she was at the 2010 CrossFit Games.
Another awesome facet to the Community of CrossFit is the support and encouragement across the board. These athletes were competing against each other. Yet, when they would finish their workout they would go find their competitors who were struggling and encourage (and even COACH) them!
I was glued to my computer for most of the weekend.
I was watching the live stream (ahem- I mean doing homework) and keeping up with the twitter feed as some of my fellow FitFluential Ambassadors were there, alongside with GNC, giving us behind the scenes info.
I made a trip to GNC this weekend to stock up on some blender bottles and was excited to see this!
Anyway- all that to say this… If you are looking for a community to keep you inspired to reach your fitness potential, find your local affiliate and get started now. You are capable of more than you think. If you need more inspiration check out the CrossFit Games website and watch some of these athletes in action, if that doesn’t convince you I don’t know what will! What inspires you?
