Coffee Date Friday

Happy Friday! We made it to the end of another week, congrats! Let’s raise our mugs and share a celebratory toast over a hot cup of coffee. While we’re at it, lets chat. I love coffee dates. Mostly because I love coffee, but I like to talk too… So it’s pretty much a win-win, right? If we were having coffee I would be super excited to show you my new Keurig 2.0 that I got through a campaign with Influenster.

Isn’t she pretty? What’s cool is that it comes with a Carafe, so you can brew up to 4-5 cups with a K-Carafe! It still brews single serve too, but make sure it is a Keurig approved k-cup because the 2.0 is so smart it will read the labels and only brew quality Keurig k-cups. If you’re interested in purchasing a brewer from Keurig, let me know! I have a link I can send you that gets you 2 free boxes of k-cups! I love coffee, but I love free coffee even more! Also, I love big mugs. Thanks to one of my friends my new favorite mug can probably hold a whole carafe of coffee on its own. No need to refill!

Now, let’s talk about life. I’ve been doing quite a bit of reflection lately. You see, I’m a big dreamer (duh). While that is mostly a great quality, sometimes it causes me to miss the now. I started to think about my dreams and goals and realized that I am so entirely blessed to be basically living my dream. I get to wake up every morning next to my best friend, I am blessed to have the most precious daughter ever, I get to spend the mornings and evenings coaching people I love to better health and fitness, share my crazy thoughts with the world (aka- You awesome readers), and I am in the best shape of my life. Yes, I want to do more, be better, and try harder… but, really, this life I live right now is pretty awesome.

I found this quote the other day and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I’ve always been chasing something… a weight loss goal, a business goal, the next new car or phone… But really I have found the way of life I love to live. I’m absolutely living my dream. But that doesn’t make it easy. I have to make hard choices and sacrifices to live this way. The past few years have been a blur of early mornings and late nights. I have said no to things I’d rather say yes to, and I’ve said yes to things I’d rather say no to. I’m learning to find the balance between chasing my dreams and living them.

Life is hard. Chasing your dreams is hard. Living in the now is hard. It’s all going to be hard, so why not put the effort into something you love. CrossFit, Zumba, Running, Crochet… find what it is and then do it…. and enjoy it. Because you’re worth it.

If we were having coffee I’d ask you what it is that you love to do… What is it that makes you feel most alive? And how often do you do it?

Learning is Everyday (sponsored post)

Tracking PixelThis is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of KinderCare.

Time flies and kids grow up fast. They are always learning. It isn’t just about the lesson plans and school days, learning is everyday. At 3 1/2 years old, our little princess is such a curious little learner. She is always asking questions, some of which catch me off guard. Sometimes I get overwhelmed with the weight of responsibility that comes with teaching kids about life and learning. When looking for a preschool I wanted to find a place where they took the responsibility of teaching kids as seriously as I did. I mean, the things they are learning now are building blocks of how they understand life for the rest of forever! Of course I take it seriously. When I’m not around I want to know that my daughter is receiving high quality care and instruction. That takes more than a good lesson plan, it takes a quality facility and caring staff. We have moments every day that are “learning moments” – those moments in our everyday routine that can be used as an opportunity to teach our children something.

I recently had one of those fun learning moments. At our CrossFit we have a large garage door we keep open. Sometimes this means we get some “visitors” like Rollie Pollies and other little bugs. One morning I turned around to find the brightest green leaf bug staring back at me. Right now Payton is obsessed with bugs. She even had a bug catching kit that she kept up there to catch rollie pollies in. Knowing that this would be an awesome learning moment I sprung into action and caught the bug in her bug catcher.

Not only did this turn out to be a learning moment for her, but for me as well! She asked me what it was called and I couldn’t answer. All I knew was that it looked like a leaf. So, I did what any blog mom would do… I asked my social media friends and googled it!

So something as simple as a bug turns into a learning adventure! She was so excited and actually got to hear it “sing” (uhm – it was more of a screech) and wanted to keep it as a pet. I explained that it needed to live in the wild to get food and maybe find it’s family. Also, the idea of that thing screeching in my house wasn’t exactly appealing. This was a fun learning moment that she won’t quickly forget!

Kindercare is all about embracing Learning Moments, those moments away from the chalkboard where learning naturally happens. As a matter of fact, learning moments is the theme of their upcoming open house on April 13! They will be having these open houses at all their learning centers nationwide. Families are encouraged to visit their local Kindercare for the open house to meet the teachers and see what quality childhood education looks like. Not sure where your local Kindercare is? Check out the website and use the locator tool!

#RunFor Family – Asmeret’s Story

I have been honored to work with Dick’s Sporting Goods on an amazingly inspiring campaign called #RunFor. This campaign is all about the sharing the different reasons why we run. This campaign will lead up to me running in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Half Marathon! (In 39 days… EEK!) Each week they are releasing a new video telling the stories of different runners and the reason why they run. I shared last week about Lisa and Sally. This week’s story hit really close to home for me. If you read my health story you know that while I have struggled with my weight my whole life my “A-HA!” moment came after having my daughter in 2010. I knew that I didn’t want her to struggle with the same health and weight issues that I had to struggle with. I knew I had to set a good example for her. So I began running and eating right. And it was all she knew. She would bring me my running shoes and tell me “Go Mama GO!” when she was like 18 months old. She loved running with me and watching me run. Now she is 3 and she still asks me to go running. It has become a part of our lives. Not only to a run to set a good example for her, but I run to be healthy for her and  my husband. They motivate me to be the healthiest I can be so I can be around longer to share life with them.

This week’s #RunFor video is about Asmeret – A mom who wakes up at 3:30am to run everyday so she can be around to care for her kids. Like I said, I totally get this one. I wake up at 4:15am four days a week to go to CrossFit before my daughter wakes up. Being around for her, and showing her what it is to be strong and healthy, makes it all worth it. Check out Asmeret’s Story:

I really do love these videos, they are SO inspiring. This is the third video in the 13 video series. If you have missed any just hop over to the Dick’s Sporting Goods #RunFor page to catch up.

Are you an early morning runner/gym goer?
What do you #runfor?
