Weigh In Wednesday: In a Funk

Weigh In Wednesday

Oh yay. Time for another Weigh In Wednesday. If I were to be really honest with you I would tell you I’m struggling right now. Sure, I’ve managed to meet my dietbet goal and stay under it… But I have been stuck lately. Mentally I am just in such a funk. Meal planning has been hard, we’ve eaten out more than we should, indulged in too many cheats… but when I realized that I have only lost 7 lbs in the last 6 months I got kinda frustrated. I work my tail off. I know the scale doesn’t tell all, but when I feel like I work so hard and don’t see the results I’m going after it is tough. People who say the number on the scale doesn’t matter are lying. For me, it does. It’s not about being a certain weight, but it is about seeing progress. I haven’t been seeing amazing improvements in my workouts and my clothes are still fitting the same. My eating hasn’t been completely on point every day of the last 6 months, but I have more good days than bad. I have been trying to track everything I eat to try to figure out where I’m going wrong here. Something’s gotta give. More than anything I need to get my head back in the game.

Not to use it as an excuse, but it is time to get my thyroid levels checked again. Thank you, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis for jacking up my hormones and metabolism. Now for the down and dirty details.

  1. I’m right there with you Courtney! My posts the last two days have pretty much said the same thing and I know it’s from my eating. Unfortunately I’m probably adding to your winnings 😥 I really need to get my ass back in gear!

    We can do this!

  2. I think we all go through up’s and down’s. For me truly the habit I’ve adopted of reading something positive everyday has made a huge difference in allowing me to get out of those funks much faster. Keep at it and don’t forget the scale is just but one measure of how awesome you are and what progress you are making.

  3. I do…especially when I stress I reach for food….not having sweets around has helped but makes me more cranky 😉 I think you’ve done am awesome job though nonetheless!

  4. I’ve been making my way through the WIW links this week, and it is a common theme, this funk. Maybe because it is February? Anyway, you’re not alone…..but you keep showing up, the funk has to work it’s way through eventually….keep your head up, spring is on it’s way!

  5. Court, keep it up! You have so much willpower to pull through these silly funks that will always somehow manage to creep in. Go stare at the “Health and Fitness” section of Pinterest. That’s what I do. It’s so motivating, and reminds you that there are tons of healthy recipes (to curb the eating out) and TONS of workout ideas (to throw a curveball in your workouts!).

You are never alone, girl. WE got this!

  6. All the time, friend.

I’m in the process of getting my metabolism and hormones checked right now. On one hand, I hope nothing is really wrong … but I also would kind of like to know that there’s a REASON my efforts aren’t paying off like they should.

Hang in there. February is always the worst month. Soon we can get outside again!

  7. Keep in mind…you are a super busy gal! You are a killer wife and killer mom with a killer blog…who is also in school. That’s got to put at least some stress on your shoulders, and stress boosts our cortisol…which means even if you’re doing everything right, your body is more likely to gain/hold on to weight. It sucks but hormones do play a factor.

Go easy on yourself and remind yourself where you MIGHT be without all the hard work you have done this year. That’s what I tell myself when I feel like I’m doing all I can and not getting the results I hoped for.

  8. There is no way that I can convince this to you but I swear to you the day I threw away the scale was the best day of my fitness life. I was so attached to that scale and obsessed with weighing myself that I overlooked all of the good I was doing for myself.

I can tell you that in the last 9 months of seeing you at CF that I know you are making amazing strides and I can certainly see a difference in your strength and in your body.

Don’t get down on yourself. Everyone hits plateaus in terms of weight but not everyone keeps at it and continues to push through those plateaus. I have no doubt that YOU will, though!

    1. Thanks, April. I have made huge progress… However, The scale is still a really good tool of measuring for me. At the weight I’m at now I should be still seeing weight loss, regardless of muscle gain. I need to readjust my nutrition… I got a little too comfortable so I’m tracking closer this week!

  9. I am in SUCH a funk right now. I was in a funk for a very large part of 2012 and this year I was really on a roll but I haven’t been able to lose ANY weight and I’m getting so discouraged! I am in Funky Town and not the good one. Oh well.. just gotta try to get my head in the game! You too – we can do it 🙂

    1. I’m starting to see some light- It is such a hard cycle to break out of. If i’m in a funk I don’t want to workout or eat right and if I don’t work out or eat right I feel funky and so it continues. I’m choosing to make better choices this week and hope it pays off!

  10. I know you’ve gotten your thyroid checked out and all but I have had to cut out all all white flour and eat ONLY whole wheat flour or opt for rice, beans, etc.
Whenever I try to eat it occasionally my weight immediately goes up 10 lbs

    1. I try to steer clear of it. I have some gluten free flour I use occasionally but I mostly use almond and coconut flour. Usually I only have that when eating out (hellllo chickfila) but I can tell a difference when I eat it.

  11. Yes, I am in a funk! I have gained weight since meeting my now husband. i am the heaviest I have ever been. Some of my clothes still fit fine, but I wish I was lighter. 😦 I work my butt off and try to eat better, but I do not see that scale move. Maybe my metabolism HAS slowed down…

  12. I was so glad to happen upon your blog. Been very frustrated unable to break through my funk lately as well. I’ve been doing Weight Watchers but I think I need to get a lot more specific on what I’m eating and up the exercise double time for hypo weight loss. Could you (or do you have a..) post on what you recommend eating/meal plans you’ve lost with/weekly workout amount for when you’ve seen success? From what I can see from reading I’m leading towards lean protein and vegetable heavy and reducing carbs bigtime. I do 3 zumba classes a week but that doesnt seem to be enough to break through. Thanks for your blog and putting it out there–it was very encouraging to come across others struggling with the same thing! You can do this!

    1. Hey Katie! Man, funks are tough! My biggest problem is always with the food. I can workout til the cows come home, but until I change my food I won’t see the kind of results I want. I personally tend to lean towards the Paleo Style of eating. Right now I’m doing a Whole30 challenge, check out more about it at Whole9Life.com – As far as workouts go I’m all about CrossFit! It is always something new so I never get bored and it keeps my body on it’s toes. Hope that helps!
